Mederhaus was named after the latest owners – Meder family and it is a very significant historical object located in the centre of Žatec. The first information about this house comes from municipal historical sources dated to 1564 but the house is much older as it has gothic basics. This unique building shows the typical gothic architectural style of medieval times, especially with regard to the cellars.

Unfortunately it was damaged after World War II and in the second half of the 20th century it was slowly destroyed and finally became a ruin. The Mederhaus Association with the financial funding from EU regional funds together with the Ministry of Regional Development and donors financed the renovation. Mederhaus became a museum. It will open for public at the beginning of 2022.

Sylvania had the honour to participate in the renovation of the Mederhaus. Indoors, the right lighting was achieved with premium quality Concord Beacon products. These products, thanks to their accessories, are perfect for highlighting fine details, creating atmosphere and authenticity. For the exterior lighting of the building, the START eco Spikelight range was chosen.

The author of the lighting project was lighting designer Michal Kuběnský www.kubensky.cz. This renovation project was awarded by the National Monuments Institute with the „Monument of 2020-2nd place“ prize and just recently the „Patrimonium pro futuro 2021“ prize.
