Meander Medical Centre (Meander Medisch Centrum) is the most important hospital for the Amersfoort region in the Netherlands. The impressive complex comprises several building parts and is equipped for basic care as well as for top clinical care and training of healthcare professionals. A hospital of that size obviously has thousands and thousands of light fixtures that consume a lot of energy. It goes without saying that replacing existing fixtures with conventional technology with LED can yield significant energy savings.
As part of the hospital’s multi-year maintenance plan, Ronald Makkreel, Projects Coordinator of the Real Estate and Technology department at Meander, contacted Ferry Brouwer, lighting consultant at Technische Unie. With a view to phased relighting, a test set-up was made with downlights from different manufacturers. The Insaver Slim Multipower 225 from Sylvania was chosen as the best solution, not only because these downlights offer a solution for the different power requirements in one luminaire, but also because they fit perfectly into the existing hole size. This allows a quick replacement with minimal disruption.
The application at Meander Medisch Centrum proves that Insaver Slim Multipower downlights are highly multifunctional luminaires. In the corridors they form perfect functional lighting, and in the company restaurant in the central atrium they were applied in the black ceiling, where the decorative faceted reflector and the sparkling light contribute to the cozy atmosphere.
In the center of the hall, visitors and patients can go to the information desk for practical information and registrations. The hall is bathed in daylight, which is why Insaver Topper 225 downlights were chosen, again with the handy diameter with an opal screen and a wide, diffuse light distribution.
In various consultation rooms, the downlights were supplemented with suspended, stylish Optix Linear fixtures above the worktop and a wall-mounted direct/indirect version at the examination bed. These luminaires have the latest LED technology and particularly efficient optics.
The reception desks of various departments in the hospital were equipped with the same combination of Insaver Slim downlights with Optix Linear pendant luminaires with direct/indirect light. The sleek design contributes to the modern appearance of the counters and provides a pleasantly lit workplace for the counter staff and visitors.
